Engagement rate measures how people interact with your posts relative to how many people saw them.

The Formula

Engagement Rate = Total Engagements Γ· Impressions

The result is shown as a percentage (e.g., 3.5%).

LinkedIn

Company Pages: Engagements = Likes + Comments + Clicks + Shares

Personal Profiles: Engagements = Likes + Comments + Shares

Twitter/X

Engagements = Likes + Replies + Bookmarks + Retweets + Quote Tweets

Instagram

Engagements = Likes + Comments + Saves + Shares

Facebook

Engagements = Reactions + Comments + Shares

Common questions

Why is my engagement rate different on the platform vs. Ordinal?

Platforms may calculate engagement rate differently or include different metrics. Ordinal uses the formulas above, which may not match exactly what you see natively.

Why is engagement rate showing as 0% or blank?

If a post has no impressions yet (or the platform hasn't provided impression data), engagement rate can't be calculated. This is common for very new posts.
