If you're seeing a "Video is too large" error, your video file exceeds Ordinal's upload limit of 300 MB. You'll need to compress it before uploading.

1. Go to freeconvert.com/video-compressor

3. Choose a target file size under 300 MB
4. Download the compressed video

HandBrake (desktop app, more control)
1. Download HandBrake (free, available for Mac/Windows/Linux)
2. Open your video in HandBrake
3. Choose a preset like "Fast 1080p30" or "Very Fast 720p"
4. Click "Start Encode"
5. Upload the output file to Ordinal
Tip: If your video is still too large after compression, try reducing the resolution (e.g., from 4K to 1080p) or shortening the video.
Will compression affect my video quality?
This is a common concern, but here's what actually happens:
Ordinal's compression
When you upload a video to Ordinal, we may compress it to optimize for publishing. The compression through Ordinal is minimal and should not have an impact on video quality.
Platform compression (the bigger factor)
Ssocial platforms do heavy compression themselves, regardless of how you upload.
Whether you:
- Schedule through Ordinal
- Post directly on LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
- Upload via the mobile app
...the platform will compress your video. LinkedIn, for example, applies significant compression to all uploaded videos. This happens no matter how perfect your original file is.
Bottom line: Compressing your video before upload won't meaningfully affect the final quality your audience sees. The platform's compression is the bigger factor, and that happens either way.
